This 32-week, high school-level course will give your student the opportunity to explore some excellent classic literature!  We will enjoy dynamic class discussions about these books as we learn about the forms and genres of literature.  Students will gain an understanding of the process of writing – essay organization, style and mechanics.  Literary texts will be studied within a historical and cultural context and will be discussed over a 2-4 week period.  This course is a college preparatory class and is eligible to meet the requirements for high school English credit (1 credit hour).  Future classes (planned for subsequent years): British Literature.

Books we’ll read:
Pygmalion, Around the World in Eighty Days, Ivanhoe, Frankenstein, The Tempest, and Animal Farm.  We will also read several short stories which are in the public domain and can be read online or downloaded.  Links to these will be provided in class.

Other Materials: a materials list will be provided prior to our first day
